Alexa+

Amazon · amazon.com/alexa-plus

Alexa+ is Amazon's closed, cloud-hosted generative AI assistant. It routes requests among Amazon-selected models and runs only on Amazon's service under an Amazon account. Owners get per-service unlinking, fixed purchase gates, preset personality styles, itemised notes and conversation-history deletion. There is no provider-independent export, model choice, source, tamper-evident record or version pinning, and sponsored content is integrated into answers.

Strengths
  • Linked services and skills can be unlinked one by one, and tokens are deleted on disable (C5)
  • Owner-editable routines and preset personality styles (M1)
  • Purchase, booking and payment confirmations are enforced by platform policy (C2)
  • Remember This notes and attachments are itemised (M2)
Gaps
  • No export that restores outside Amazon, and no run path without Amazon (P1–P5)
  • Model routing, base prompt and settings are controlled server-side and can change without notice (T2, M5)
  • Sponsored products and ads are integrated into Alexa+ answers with no off switch (T4)
  • Training and human review of interactions and unbounded retention of action records and derived data (C4, T3)

Portable · Can you leave, take the whole agent with you, and keep it alive?

0%
  • P1
    Owner-usable round trip

No documented export of the agent exists that can be restored anywhere. Alexa.com offers per-chat 'Download full discussion', and Amazon's account-wide 'Request your data' returns a download link, but no importer or non-Amazon runtime accepts either, so restore works only on Amazon-operated systems.

    › How it could pass

Suggestions. Any change that meets the test counts.

    • Offer an agent export plus a matching import an ordinary owner can run
    • Publish an importer or runtime not operated by Amazon that restores the export working
    Fail
  • P2
    Complete export

The available exports cover chat transcripts, attachments and account data. Routines, personality and other settings, learned preferences, derived content (Alexa 'may still retain … text extracted … or summaries' after an attachment is deleted), and integration links are not documented as exportable. Integrations re-link only through Amazon's Alexa account-linking broker.

    › How it could pass

Suggestions. Any change that meets the test counts.

    • Export every class of agent state (routines, memory, settings, action records) with a manifest
    • Export source text next to derived summaries
    • Let integrations be re-linked without Amazon's broker
    Fail
  • P3
    Runs without the provider

Alexa+ runs only as an Amazon cloud service tied to an Amazon account and a Prime or Alexa+ subscription. The Terms let Amazon 'terminate your access to Alexa at our discretion without notice' and 'change, suspend, or discontinue Alexa … at any time without notice'.

    › How it could pass

Suggestions. Any change that meets the test counts.

    • Provide a runtime the owner can run with Amazon services blocked
    • Grant a perpetual, irrevocable right to run it
    Fail
  • P4
    Model independence

Amazon routes each request among models it selects, 'including Amazon Nova and Anthropic Claude', accessed through Amazon Bedrock. No public source shows owner model choice, bring-your-own model or local model support.

    › How it could pass

Suggestions. Any change that meets the test counts.

    • Let the owner configure any model meeting a documented minimum, including a local open-weight model
    • Keep every capability working after a model swap
    Fail
  • P5
    Exit survives termination

The Terms allow termination 'at our discretion without notice' and say nothing about data access afterwards. No post-termination export window, owner-held backup or shutdown plan is documented, and state lives only in Amazon's cloud.

    › How it could pass

Suggestions. Any change that meets the test counts.

    • Commit in binding terms to a 30-day post-termination export window that covers bans and shutdown
    • Or keep a current, complete copy of agent state with the owner by default
    Fail

Transparent · Can you see everything the agent is, and everything shaping it?

0%
  • T1
    Readable without the provider

Agent state (history, notes, routines, preferences, action records) is held in Amazon's cloud and readable only through the Alexa app, Alexa.com or Amazon's data-request service. No public schema covers the state, and Amazon holds the keys.

    › How it could pass

Suggestions. Any change that meets the test counts.

    • Make all agent state readable with public documentation and general-purpose tools
    • Publish schemas for every state class and let the owner hold any keys
    Fail
  • T2
What runs is what you see

Both shortfalls apply. The base prompt and any provider-layer context are not viewable. The model serving a request is chosen per request by Amazon's router and is not disclosed to the owner. 'Why did you do that?' gives only a natural-language explanation.

    › How it could pass

Suggestions. Any change that meets the test counts.

    • Let the owner view the full assembled context for any request
    • Show which model and tools served each request, and every provider switch in effect
    Fail
  • T3
    No shadow data

Amazon discloses retention options only for voice recordings and transcripts (3 or 18 months, or don't save, with transcripts kept 30 days). It 'may still retain … records of actions Alexa took', attachments, extracted text and summaries with no stated period, and it keeps 'systems trained on your data after your data has been deleted'. The US Privacy Notice has no retention table.

    › How it could pass

Suggestions. Any change that meets the test counts.

    • Publish a bounded retention period for every data class
    • Let the owner see everything retained, item by item, including derived data and action records
    Fail
  • T4
    No hidden steering

Amazon Ads states that Sponsored Products campaigns are 'automatically integrated into shopping conversations' on Alexa+, giving 'a mix of organic and sponsored options'. It also sells Conversational Entertainment Ads and Sponsored Tiles inside Alexa+ answers. No first-party source documents per-answer labelling as prominent as the answer, or an off switch. Opting out of interest-based ads only stops targeting ('You will still receive ads').

    › How it could pass

Suggestions. Any change that meets the test counts.

    • Label each sponsored item in the answer as prominently as the answer itself
    • Let the owner switch sponsored and brand-shaped answers off, and put this in binding terms
    Fail

Auditable · Can you reconstruct exactly what the agent did, and trust the record?

17%
  • A1
    Complete action record

Alexa History lists requests and responses, with booking confirmations sent by email. No public source shows a durable action record with arguments and targets across every entry path (Hunches acting automatically, Auto Buy, routines, add-ons). No source says the owner is told when recording fails. Amazon's retained 'records of actions Alexa took' are not shown to the owner.

    › How it could pass

Suggestions. Any change that meets the test counts.

    • Keep an owner-visible record of every consequential action from every trigger, with arguments and targets
    • Tell the owner when an action cannot be recorded
    Fail
  • A2
    Tamper-evident, owner-checkable

No integrity data or verifier is published for Alexa history or action records. Amazon holds the record and can change or delete it without trace.

    › How it could pass

Suggestions. Any change that meets the test counts.

    • Hash-chain or sign action records and publish an open verifier
    • Anchor checkpoints with the owner or an independent witness
    Fail
  • A3
    Agent cannot rewrite its record

History is written and stored by Amazon's service, and Amazon documents that 'voice requests can't be used to delete your voice history with Alexa+'. Nothing shows that the agent cannot suppress or alter entries, so protection rests on undocumented product convention.

    › How it could pass

Suggestions. Any change that meets the test counts.

    • Document that the record is written by a component the agent cannot reach
    • Explain how the owner can check that protection
    Partial

Verifiable · Can you prove what it runs, who it is, and what changed?

0%
  • V1
    Obtainable source, matching build

Alexa+ is a proprietary Amazon cloud service licensed under the Alexa Terms, and no source is published for any required component.

    › How it could pass

Suggestions. Any change that meets the test counts.

    • Publish source for every required component under terms allowing modification and third-party maintenance
    • Make the running build verifiable against that source
    Fail
  • V2
    Owner-rooted identity

The agent acts under the owner's Amazon account. Bookings and confirmations are tied to 'the email address associated with your Amazon account', and the account can be revoked by Amazon under the Terms. No owner-held identity root is documented.

    › How it could pass

Suggestions. Any change that meets the test counts.

    • Root the agent's identity in something the owner holds (key, DID, owner domain)
    • Let recipients check the agent's actions without Amazon infrastructure
    Fail
  • V3
    Change history and rollback

No source shows a change history of agent state (routines, settings, memory, model, version) with attribution or restore. History covers conversations, not state changes.

    › How it could pass

Suggestions. Any change that meets the test counts.

    • Log every change to instructions, memory, settings and model with who made it
    • Offer restore to an earlier state
    Fail
